Our first check arrived from the Mayor's office yesterday! Great way to start the week. Some more that size and we'll meet our fundraising goal in no time!
Our new website is live, thanks to friend and fellow filmmaker/web designer Andy McCone! Thank you, Andy, for your generosity and talent.
Since winning the IFP/Seattle Spotlight Award last winter, we've taken "Betty" through a rigorous script development process with our producer, Annie Flocco, who has guided us with great care, helping to keep our original vision intact. We reached out to many talented individuals in the Seattle writing and filmmaking community for feedback on various drafts and can't thank you enough for sharing your time and insights. Special thanks to Barney Lichtenstein and Sandra Aloha for encouraging us to be bold. And, thank you Adam Sekuler for helping us get off the ground and introducing us to Joy!
It's fantastic to finally be within reach of making our film with such a talented team, including Sean Porter as DP and Joy Andrews as Production Designer. Steve Kodish just signed on as co-producer, Jamie Friddle as production coordinator, and with Laurie Hicks moving over to Art Director, we're now looking for an A.D. We're also officially casting. We'll be working with Stephen Salamunovich of Complete Casting as part of our IFP/Seattle grant support. If you're interested in a part or know a great actor for one of 19 characters, please check out our cast page.
It's an amazing opportunity to create this kind of film on 35mm. Thank you to all of the sponsors of the IFP/Seattle Spotlight Award and to Michel Hansmire and Cheryl Slean for your support. Thank you also to the Seattle Mayor's Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs for awarding Heather a CityArtists grant in support of "Betty."
Now we just need a little help from you...
Want to share in the passion? (Yes!) Learn how you can support the project today.
"Passion, it lies in all of us, sleeping... waiting... and though unwanted... unbidden... it will stir... open its jaws and howl. It speaks to us... guides us... passion rules us all, and we obey. What other choice do we have? Passion is the source of our finest moments. The joy of love... the clarity of hatred... and the ecstasy of grief. It hurts sometimes more than we can bear. If we could live without passion maybe we'd know some kind of peace... but we would be hollow... Empty rooms shuttered and dank. Without passion we'd be truly dead."
~ Joss Whedon, Screenwriter, Toy Story, Buffy
We'll keep you posted on what's to come...so check back from time to time, or sign up for our mailing list. We'll be rolling into production in November!
Thank you everyone for your support and belief in us,
Heather & Ixaac, the writers!
