About Betty

"My Time with Betty" is an intense, character-driven exploration of captivity, the chase for freedom, and truth versus illusion. It's about a woman wrongfully locked up in a mental asylum who breaks free. It's a story about bumping against the darkest elements of the soul, and the mind, and reaching for the light, and finding it.

The film is being directed by Heather Ayres (Lipstick Men), cowritten with Ixaac Paul Ackley, produced by Annie Flocco (Acts of Worship, Super Troopers), co-produced with Steve Kodish (The Hope, The Meaning of Food), Sean Porter (Sweet Crude, True Adolescents) as Director of Photography, and Joy Andrews (Dear Lemon Lima, The Off Hours) as Production Designer.

The project won the 2007 IFP/Seattle Spotlight Award, which grants one filmmaking team critical resources to make a short film (under 16 minutes) on film, including: 35mm film stock courtesy of Eastman Kodak; a camera package to match from Oppenheimer Cine Rental; casting sessions with Complete Casting; film processing to answer print from Alpha Cine Labs; transfer of dailies to color correction from Modern Digital; sound design with Clatter & Din; and legal services from Lance Rosen, Esq. The film also has the generous sponsorship of DTC Grip and Electric.

Heather won a 2008 CityArtists grant in direct support of "Betty."
